It's never too late to do the right thing. On the ethical side, humans do not have to consume animal products to live or be healthy. To kill animals including fish is wrong.
Pope Francis:
Countries, agencies, and industries are seeking support from Pope Francis before the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference to be held December in Paris. Anote Tong, president of Kiribati, a Micronesian nation, met with the Pope to speak of the importance of safeguarding the environment and climate change. Tong is very concerned with the future of his country due to climate change. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) administrator, Gina McCarthy, is also seeking the Pope’s support. McCarthy met with Vatican officials January 31. McCarthy spoke in a press conference about global warming threatening us all, but is also a chance for economic opportunity.
Laws:
France declares that animals are sentient! The French Parliament has ended 200 years of laws to elevate animals to the status of sentient beings. This recognition in law is an important milestone for animals. As the law starts to acknowledge the sentience of all animals, recognition will continue to grow that animals do have needs. One day animals will gain the rights they have been denied for so long. New Zealand is getting ready to acknowledge sentience as well in its animal welfare legislation for 2015.
