Sanctuaries: :
This is a real story about a former beef and dairy farmer. Though it may be difficult for a person who makes a living from farming to become a vegan it is not impossible. One example is the Hof Butenland, now an animal sanctuary in North Germany founded by Jan Gerdes and Karin Muck. Jan was a dairy farmer for years but had a change of heart and decided to become a vegan. He decided to convert the farm into a sanctuary vowing to devote the remainder of his life to animals, and to end their exploitation. At one time these animals were used for eating and routinely sent to be slaughtered. Jan wanted to earn a living, but because of his change of heart he now thinks of the animals as friends. He is happy and talks to his animals, such as the cows, pigs, cats and dogs. Jan says that they all have their qualities, and are happy when he talks to them as well.
You may go to the Hof Butenland website. The film “Live and let Live,” is a powerful new documentary exploring the special relationship with farmed animals, the history of veganism, ethical, environmental, and health benefits that motivate people to go vegan.
